The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), an agency of the U.S. Department of Commerce, is the President’s principal adviser on domestic and international telecommunications and information technology issues. NTIA works to spur innovation, encourage competition, create jobs, and provide consumers with more choices and better quality telecommunications products and services at lower prices.

Telecommunications and information-related industries are some of the largest and most vital sectors of the U.S. economy today. Telecommunications and information issues are dynamic, multi-disciplinary and complex. One or two Fall internship(s) is available at NTIA’s Office of the Chief Counsel (OCC). As volunteers, students may arrange to earn class credit for the internship.

Candidates should have a particular, demonstrated interest in telecommunications law, as well as other related and relevant legal fields such as media, Internet, intellectual property, administrative, and technology law. Experience and exposure to the telecommunication industry and law is required. Candidates should also possess a demonstrated, strong writing ability. Second year, third year and LL.M students may apply. U.S. citizenship is required.

Intern duties will involve assisting attorneys with legal work relating to telecommunications and information policy development. Work may include legal research and writing on various legal issues affecting the communications industry, summarizing reports and filings at the Federal Communications Commission, reviewing current legislation, testimony, and other documents. Interns must commit to work approximately 18-20 hours per week throughout the Fall semester.

CharlotteLaw requires every student to perform law-related pro bono service in order to graduate. The Assistant Professor of Pro Bono runs the CharlotteLaw Pro Bono Program. Through student meetings and coordination with faculty, he or she teaches students the professional responsibility of pro bono service, with the goal of every student having a quality educational experience in pro bono. Currently, the Assistant Professor of Pro Bono position is a part-time, non-tenure track faculty position. The term is for one year. At the end of the year, the position may be upgraded to a full-time, non-tenure track position. In this case, the successful candidate will be in position to compete for the full-time position. This ground-breaking position would be great for 1) someone who wants an interesting part-time gig in a Southern city for a year or 2) someone who wants to be part of something that is student and community centered and that has the potential for exciting curricular innovation, is willing to start small with a pt position (at $25K), and will be committed to growing with the school. In most routine matters the candidate will perform legal tasks directly, although in some cases the candidate will be responsible for retaining and managing outside law firms to advise or assist. This position reports to the Lehigh Hanson VP, General Counsel. The Lehigh Hanson legal department is responsible for the legal affairs of the Lehigh Hanson group, which is the North American arm of HeidelbergCement AG. Lehigh Hanson is one of the world's largest suppliers of heavy building materials to the construction industry. We produce aggregates (crushed rock, sand and gravel), ready-mixed and precast concrete, asphalt, cement and cement-related materials and a range of building products including concrete pipes, concrete pavers, tiles and clay bricks. POSITION SUMMARY You will provide legal advice and services primarily on contracts and other commercial transactions, although you may be assigned other matters from time to time. OUR EXPECTATIONS - YOUR RESULTS 1. Preparing (draft or review drafts prepared by others) of contracts for the sale of construction materials and purchase of supplies, energy, equipment and other goods and for construction contracts for plants and improvements. 2. Assisting in developing and implementing standardized terms and conditions for purchase orders and sales contracts and contracts for various services. 3. Advising company managers on the rights and obligations of the company under contracts and commercial transactions. 4. Participating in due diligence review and related transactional review of commercial agreements and related matters in the acquisition or divestiture by the company of a business or other assets. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited institution, membership in a state bar in good standing. • 3-5 years experience with a law firm or legal department dealing with commercial transactions. OTHER DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS • Membership to the State Bar of Texas in good standing. • Commercial transactional experience with a construction, construction materials, mining or manufacturing company.
