ADMINISTRATION
The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), an agency of the U.S. Department of Commerce, is the President’s principal adviser on domestic and international telecommunications and information technology issues. NTIA works to spur innovation, encourage competition, create jobs, and provide consumers with more choices and better quality telecommunications products and services at lower prices.
Telecommunications and information-related industries are some of the largest and most vital sectors of the U.S. economy today. Telecommunications and information issues are dynamic, multi-disciplinary and complex. NTIA’s expertise and advocacy enable the United States to continue to demonstrate innovative leadership and economic competitiveness. Additional information is available at http://www.ntia.doc.gov.
One or two Fall internship(s) is available at NTIA’s Office of the Chief Counsel (OCC). As volunteers, students may arrange to earn class credit for the internship.
Candidates should have a particular, demonstrated interest in telecommunications law, as well as other related and relevant legal fields such as media, Internet, intellectual property, administrative, and technology law. Experience and exposure to the telecommunication industry and law is required. Candidates should also possess a demonstrated, strong writing ability. Second year, third year and LL.M students may apply. U.S. citizenship is required.
Intern duties will involve assisting attorneys with legal work relating to telecommunications and information policy development. Work may include legal research and writing on various legal issues affecting the communications industry, summarizing reports and filings at the Federal Communications Commission, reviewing current legislation, testimony, and other documents. Interns must commit to work approximately 18-20 hours per week throughout the Fall semester.

Collaborating with internal partners—including student leaders, Harward Center for Community Partnerships, Dean of Students, advancement officers, and faculty and academic deans—as well as with alumni, parents, consortia colleagues, and employer representatives throughout corporate, non-profit, governmental, and educational organizations is an important responsibility of the Director. Additionally, the Director oversees ongoing coordination between the Office of Career Services (OCS) and the Medical Studies and Graduate Fellowships Committees of the faculty and pre-professional advising in the fields of business and law. The Director manages an organization currently comprised of six FTE career counselors and administrative staff; leads the planning process to identify short and long-range plans of the department including resource, facility, personnel, and technology allocation; and controls an annual operating budget of approximately $110,000. Qualifications The successful candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree (master’s degree strongly preferred) and a minimum of seven years of experience demonstrating progressive responsibility and leadership in a college/university career services or parallel setting. A broad understanding of comprehensive career services including familiarity with career counseling, training for skill development, internships and experiential programs, job search strategies, job market trends, employer relations and recruitment methodologies, and the application of technology in the delivery of services as well as communication with constituents is important. Additional requirements include: exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to work effectively one-on-one and with groups in a variety of business and educational settings; demonstrated experience as a hands-on manager, capable of building and leading a cohesive team; collaborative work style conducive to building partnerships; and an unwavering commitment to diversity and inclusion.
